Total Waste Management solutions provider, Countrystyle Recycling, compostable foodservice packaging specialist, Vegware and producer of high quality, peat-free compost, Envar Composting, have formed a unique partnership to close the loop on sustainable end-of-life solutions for Vegware’s plant-based foodservice products for customers in the Cambridge area.
Vegware manufactures an extensive range of plant-based catering disposables, all designed to be commercially composted. Vegware’s cutlery, tableware, hot and cold drinks cups and takeaway packaging are all made from plants using renewable, lower carbon, recycled or reclaimed material.
Countrystyle operates trade waste collection vehicles from its depots in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, offering a dual-podded collection service that enables the collection of dry mixed recyclables alongside food waste and Vegware products, thereby reducing vehicle movements and cross-contamination.
Envar Composting, a sister company of Countrystyle and part of the Heathcote Holdings Group of resource management companies, provides the technology to process Vegware’s products through its Woodhurst In-vessel Composting Site at nearby Huntingdon. This facility produces high quality certified compost, which within a maximum period of 14 weeks, is returned to agriculture, horticulture or viticulture as a stabilised, nutrient rich, peat-free compost.
Sustainable & Local – Reducing Waste Miles
Vegware has a strong customer base in and around Cambridge and supplies its range of over 300 products to the region’s caterers, who service the host of technology, automotive, manufacturing and business support companies located in Cambridge and its surrounds, who take their sustainable credentials seriously.
Countrystyle collects Vegware products with food waste in 28 postcode districts – in Cambridge, Ely, Peterborough, Newmarket, Huntingdonshire and Fenland targeting a population of nearly 800k.
With the Envar Composting facility situated at St Ives, Huntingdon, the total waste miles travelled by Countrystyle’s collection vehicles from those Cambridge based Vegware customers, is only 18.6 miles.
Envar Composting then provides its peat-free certified compost, principally to horticultural businesses within a 20 mile radius of its facility.
This unique partnership offers both a sustainable and importantly, local, solution with a total waste miles travelled option of under 40 miles.
